From Polo to Fabric Flowers!

A while ago my husband decided to get rid of an old polo. Instead of throwing it away I tucked it in my fabric stash for a later project. When I saw all the cute fabric flower projects I knew this would be the perfect material! It doesn’t fray easily and has a nice weight a texture.

I started by cutting the bottom of the shirt off into little strips. I used a flower shape cut from my Silhouette as a rough shape and cut loosely around it. I used two different sized flowers and cut up as much of the shirt as I could.

Sorry I didn’t take many in between photos, but this project couldn’t be simpler!
Each flower takes 5-9 cut outs.

1.      Fold 4 of the cut outs in quarters and hot glue onto 5th piece.
2.      If you want a flower with more layers, repeat with 4 smaller cut outs and glue on top.
3.      Finish off the center of the flower with gem or other embellishment.

This one shirt probably made about 15 flowers or varying sizes and layers. I’ve glued them on to picture frames, pinned a few on my sister’s backpack, and have several left over!

They would be super cute on hair clips, purses, or pretty much anything!
