Easy Fabric Storage

This is one of the simplest projects, but it has already made a huge difference in my craft room. I don't know about you but I have tons of left over fabric, it's hard for me to keep track of what I have so I usually just end up buying new. I've been keeping it in a plastic storage bin, but it just ends up in a huge pile and I have to dig through it to find what I'm looking for.

I went to Ikea last week and stocked up on their white office boxes. I thought these large ones would be perfect for my fabric storage.

I used scrap cardboard and cut TONS of pieces into 11" squares. Then I simply wrapped each piece of fabric around it and secured the end with a pin.

File them away in the boxes. I kept one box with whites/neutrals and the other for colored fabric.

Don't forget your favorite helper. He always likes to be in the middle of what I'm working on = ).

SO much better! The boxes easily stack and can be put away, but it will be so nice to pull them out when I'm working on something and be able to find just what I need!

I'm working on purging and organizing the rest of my craft room, I'll show you the reveal soon!

  9. Holy crap. I'm SO doing this. I'm constantly digging through my big plastic bin of fabrics and I even have them in various bags around the house. This would help so much with getting straightened up! I am pinning this for later!

  10. Really good idea! Also the boxes at IKEA are prettier and cheaper than Walmart. Now, I'm new here...so what do you do with all that fabric?

  11. Thanks! I love the impact it's made for my craft room. @Healthier and Wealthier: I haven't posted many sewing projects lately so most of the material I have is left over from pillow projects but I have a few things up my sleeve I will be posting a lot more sewing projects in the New Year! Happy Holidays!

  13. I did the cardboard cutting too so my fabric would fit snugly in some shelves I bought specially for my fabric. Have just moved some of those shelves around and for some reason realised that the cardboard is taking up so much room.

So, I'm about 3/4 of the way through re-folding all my fabric, but this time I've used just one piece of card as a template and am now fitting in so much more fabric

I found this on pinterest and am new to crafting sewing hobby, so can I just ask why 11'' is there a sugnificant reason why? Or, because the box is that measurement!? i did mention I was new!
